Nature and people are my inspirations, and stone is my preferred medium.
I see stone as a representation of nature itself. All of nature has participated in its formation, giving stone its own information and innate beauty. Thus, the preservation of some of its original shape, visible characteristics, and integrity is important to me. I aspire to develop it, not totally transform it. While carving nature’s raw element, I choose not to drastically alter the natural characteristics of the stone, but rather expressively interpret it.
It has been said that Nature is man’s teacher. Out of my respect for Nature, then, I only hope to enhance its message through my work. What I carve is my interpretation of what I’m seeing and feeling. I do not intend, however, to impose my emotions on the viewer. Instead, I hope to stimulate curiosity, fantasy, and sentiment so that the viewer can come away with his/her own interpretation.
