Although both form and craft are always valued and integral to my work, ideas are most important to me. My work is highly conceptual and uses combined imagery designed as catalyst for thought.
While, in this society, we all share a common cultural reference, our individual circumstances support very diverse beliefs. All of us are extremely protective of entrenched, pre-existing ideas, and most of actually define ourselves by our belief system without too much examination. We think and hear more defensively than with an open mind.
Images and objects have an amazing power to provoke strong feelings and ideas in ways totally different from text. The visual, although sometimes quite threatening, may possibly have more power to make an impression and shake things up a bit. I enjoy "think art" and working to open an authentic visual/verbal dialogue with my audience.
