Artist's Statement

Nature around us is full of life, beauty, and energy. I am most delighted when I am able to communicate the mood, expression and pleasing qualities of the subject, to my viewer. As a classical, figurative sculptor, I like to emphasize the harmony between humanity and nature.

For the first time, I am presenting sculptures constructed of handmade paper. The Flamenco dancer presents the passion of the Art of Dance as it exalts the emotion and beauty of the human form in the movement of dance. In my process of hand making paper, I colored pulp of Abaca, (Philippines banana plant fiber), Cotton linter, and Kozo, (Japanese fiber).

In my series of Nature Works, I am presenting bronze sculptures. The classical influence led me to express myself in my artwork in realistic, traditional style. In my sculptures, I like to emphasize the harmony between human kind and nature. My sculptures depict a woman’s beauty surrounded by nature and focuses on the three aspects of a woman’s life: Childhood, Motherhood and Adulthood.  The sculpture, Frightened Nature, depicts the face of a frightened Mother Nature rising out of a tree trunk. It is a protest against ecological pollution. “Nature Love” shows two lovers intertwined, growing out of a tree trunk. It emphasizes the closeness and similarities of two lovers in passionate embrace.

In stone, the beauty of Amphitrite, the Greek Goddess of the sea, flowing from the hand of Nereus, her father, I chiseled in pink alabaster.

In my Classic Mythology series, I am emphasizing the divinity and immortality of the classic Greek Gods and mythological creatures, and the manifestation and reflection of their images and thoughts in nature and humanity
