ARThematics is a term I first used to describe my work in 1996. It refers to artwork in which mathematics affects the selection of shapes as well as the overall composition.  Mathematics sets a certain rhythm within the sculpture.  Colors are chosen which enhance the movement. Whether the work tends more towards realism or abstraction is less important than the rhythm and the color.

In this series of sculptures,  influenced by Northwest Coast totem poles,  there is an interplay between geometric and organic shapes.  The uneven texture and blended colors soften the underlying geometric construction.
